Don't throw it out, Take it Back!

If it's corrosive, flammable or poisonous, it's hazardous waste. These types of products contaminate water and landfills and should never be poured down the drain or put out with regular garbage. To help you dispose of these products safely the City operates several one-day Household Hazardous Waste Depots open to Ottawa residents only.

When you Take It Back! you ensure your household item is reused, recycled or disposed of in the appropriate manner. Each year, the Take It Back! program helps to divert more than 500 tonnes of materials from our city landfills.

Take It Back! partner retailers, charitable organizations and depots are listed in an annual directory and on the City's website at www.ottawa.ca/takeitback. The directories are available at City Hall, all Client Services Centres, librairies, community centres and some retail locations. You can also call me at the office with your name and I will leave a directory for you with reception.
